Battle of the Teen Bands 2021

Battle of the Teen Bands is back at the Turner Centre for the fourth year running. This exciting competition, taking place in the main auditorium, is open to young bands up to the age of 18 who live anywhere north of Whangarei to Cape Reinga.

AUDIENCE TICKETS: $10 for Adults | 16 – 18s $5 | Under 16s Free Entry

Come and show our panel of music-industry judges what you can do! We will have lots of great prizes up for grabs and a guaranteed audience to cheer for you.

Get your entries in as soon as possible to ensure your place. Spaces are limited. Check the rules to find out if you’re eligible. Don’t miss out on the chance to perform on the BIG stage! And if you’re entering Smokefree Rockquest, this is the perfect opportunity to double-up your opportunities.

ARE YOU ELIGIBLE?

The competition is open to teen bands:

  • Between the ages of 11 and 18
  • Who live in the Far North between Whangarei and Cape Reinga
  • With at least THREE band members, and at least TWO members playing instruments
  • With TWO songs – originals or covers, or a mix of the two – up to 8 minutes total
  • Paying an entry fee of $10 per band (Entry money will be awarded as part of the People’s Choice prize)

PRIZES

We’ll be awarding CASH prizes to the TOP 3 bands, and a PEOPLE’S CHOICE winner voted for by the audience. On top of that there will be special awards for BEST VOCALIST, BEST INSTRUMENTALIST and BEST BAND PERFORMANCE

*ADVICE TO BANDS
If you are a band who is thinking of entering, here are the areas to work on… The judges will be looking for musical tightness, originality and entertainment value. Cover songs are welcome, but it helps if you have added your own twist to make it your own, and judging will be weighted towards original compositions.
